Kentaro Shirahata better Kanai's placing in the men's 400 m final, running 46.83 for 5th after having run PBs in both the heats and semifinals. Gold medalist Udeme Okon was the only athlete to break 46 seconds, running 45.69.
SuperHalfs are partner races of the inaugural European Running Championships which will take place 12-13 April, in the cities of Brussels and Leuven, Belgium. The inaugural European Running Championships will feature a variety of races, including the marathon, half marathon, and 10km.
Horst Milde, chairman of the SCC's athletics department and founder of the 1st Berlin People's Marathon, had deliberately broken new ground by inviting non-club members to run a marathon for the first time. Otherwise, such a race was only reserved for members of athletics clubs.
Joy was unbounded in this competition, as respective Olympic silver and bronze medallists, Sam Kendricks of the United States and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece had both cleared 6.00m – a season’s best for the first and a national record for the latter.
But on this day Ingebrigtsen became a history man, moving clear of the field over the final lap after passing the bell with the green wavelight world record indicators scattering behind him as if they had fallen out of his pockets.
