The Dubai Marathon organisers now have a race of their own; to clear up after this 25th anniversary event, and take off to the neighbouring emirate of Ras Al Khaimah where they also stage the RAK half-marathon in just 13 days’ time, on February 14. Stay tuned!
The Burgess Family Foundation Men’s 800m could be one of the most wide-open events of the day. Athletes to watch include reigning US Champion and former world champ Donavan Brazier, American record holder Bryce Hoppel, and Irish star Cian McPhillips, who just won in Boston as well.
Hugh Brasher, London Marathon Events CEO, said: “Sabastian Sawe showed the world at last year’s TCS London Marathon that he is a man that could re-write the marathon record books so we are delighted to welcome him back for this year’s event.
Men’s race favourite, her colleague Gadisa Birhanu was more circumspect. He has a best time of 2.04.59, in winning in Seville 2023; and would only be tempted to say, ‘I’ve come here to win’.
Joining Gibson are Naomi Robinson (Daniel Robinson, BRAT), with a marathon PB of 2:30:54, and Leeds City duo, Heather Townsend (Joe Townsend, Leeds City), her marathon time being 3:37:00 and Katrina Ballantyne (Joe Townsend, Leeds City), a PB of 2:35:39.
