Fourth placed Domenika Mayer was the fourth woman to clock a sub 70:00 time in Mainz on Sunday. With 69:56 the German ran her second fastest time ever and missed her PB by just ten seconds.
But, with two kilometres to run Kiplimo began to falter; Mayaka saw his opportunity and with less than a kilometre to the finish, Mayaka swept into the lead and raced to victory in 2:11:04, almost half a minute ahead of his compatriot.
Domenika Mayer, who has a 69:46 PB from Warsaw last year, leads the women's start list. However her PB does not reflect her full potential over this distance.
