Eliud Kipchoge plant im Oktober 2019 in London den „super humanen“ 1:59-Marathon Weltrekordversuch.
Wie die britische Tageszeitung „The Guardian“ heute mitteilt, plant Eliud Kipchoge im Oktober 2019 in London den ersten Marathonlauf unter 2:00:oo zu laufen.
„Vor genau 65 Jahren brach Roger Bannister am Montag in Oxford in einem Rudel von Männern mit Bowlerhut zusammen, bevor er Worte hörte, die ihn schneller wiederbelebt haben als jeder pharmazeutische Muntermacher“.
„Das Ergebnis von Wettkampf acht: eine Meile. In einer Zeit von drei Minuten und… „ Bannister hatte das erreicht, was viele für unmöglich hielten, indem er die Vier-Minuten-Mauer-Barriere durchbrochen hatte. Nun hat Eliud Kipchoge, viermaliger Londoner Marathon-Sieger, zuletzt vor einigen Tagen, seine Absicht angekündigt, die letzte große Barriere der Leichtathletik zu durchbrechen – einen Marathon in weniger als zwei Stunden zu laufen“.
„Eliud Kipchoge kann wieder den Marathon-Weltrekord brechen, sagt sein Trainer voraus“.
Eine der in Betracht gezogenen Ideen ist es, den Versuch im Battersea Park vor 250.000 Zuschauern zu auszutragen. Aus heutiger Sicht geht der Guardian davon aus, dass das bevorzugte Datum der 13. Oktober 2019 ist, eine Woche nach dem Ende der IAAF Weltmeisterschaft.
Dahinter steht der britische Multimillionär Ratcliffe mit der Firma Ineos, der das Unternehmen finanzieren will. Hugh Brasher, der Chef vom London Marathon und der Sohn von Chris Brasher, der Roger Bannister beim Meilen-Weltrekord half, wird verantwortlich den Lauf organisieren.
