AIMS Marathon Symposium in Athen – “12. AIMS Marathon Symposium” am 10 November 2018

AIMS, Association of International Marathon and Distance Races, (die Weltvereinigung der Laufsportveranstalter aus aller Welt) lädt zum 12. AIMS Symposium nach Athen ein.

Das AIMS Symposium gibt es seit 2007 und wird in Zusammenarbeit mit SEGAS (dem Griechischen Leichtathletik-Verband) jährlich veranstaltet.

Einen Tag vor dem Athen Marathon – „Athens Marathon. The Authentic“ – findet das Symposium  statt, in der Regel mit sehr guten Referenten und sehr kurz gehalten. Ziel dieser jährlichen internationalen Veranstaltung, ist es, eine enge Zusammenarbeit und einen Meinungsaustausch über Fragen von gemeinsamen Interesse zu fördern, die die Organisatoren bei ihren ständigen Bemühungen zur Verbesserung ihrer Rennen unterstützen sollen.

Die Veranstalter bieten ein fünftägiges Programm an mit der „Best Marathon Runner Gala“,  der „Athens Marathon Opening Ceremonies & Marathon Flame Lighting“ an der archäologischen Stätte der gefallenen Athener (Sa 12.00 Uhr, 10.11.), sowie Start und Ziel des „Authentic Marathon“.

Es können auch Organisatoren, die nicht Mitglied von AIMS sind, an allen Veranstaltungen teilhaben.

As you are already aware, since 2007, AIMS – in collaboration with SEGAS (the Hellenic Athletics Federation), as well as the City of Marathon (until 2012) and IAAF (until 2015), has established the annual international “AIMS Marathon Symposium” which is held every year in Athens-Greece, the day before the annual „Athens Marathon. The Authentic“ race, held on the original Marathon course.

The aim of this annual international event, the AIMS Marathon Symposium, is to encourage close co-operation and exchange of views on issues of mutual interest which will assist organisers in their constant efforts to improve their races.

The organization of a Symposium at the birthplace of Marathon race, besides discussing current issues regarding the organisation of a successful Marathon event, also raises significant symbolism related to World Peace, Olympic Ideals and Fair Play.

The “12^thAIMS Marathon Symposium” will be held on 10 November 2018, under the title: “General Data Protection Regulation („GDPR“), Implications and impacts on running events”. During the Symposium, 4 major speakers and other round table participants will present to and discuss with the audience various themes related to the main topic, aiming to offer useful ideas, solutions and practises to race organisers and city or sport authorities involved.

In addition to the Symposium sessions, all Symposium participants are invited to attend all events taking place from 9 to 11 of November 2018: the 3-day ERGO Marathon EXPO (Thu to Sat, Nov 8^th to 10^th), the AIMS Best Marathon Runner Gala (Fri evening, Nov. 9^th), the Athens Marathon Opening Ceremonies & Marathon Flame Lighting at the archaeological site of Marathon Tomb (Sat noon, Nov 10^th), as well as the start and finish of the Authentic Marathon race, to be held on Sunday morning, Nov. 11^th.

The AIMS Marathon Symposium Organizing Committee offers B&B accommodation for 3 nights, free-of-charge to one participant per race (as long as you are a member of AIMS). Delegates will be met at Athens Airport and local transportation will be provided.

Race organizers non-AIMS members or AIMS members interested in participating in this Symposium with more than one delegate must bear the cost, as described in the Symposium Information sheet (click here to download it).

Finally, you may find here the “AIMS Marathon Symposium 2018 – Application Form” which you are kindly asked to fill in and send it back to the Symposium Secretariat, at the latest by October 1^st, 2018. You may print the application document, fill in the appropriate information and send it by fax, or you may just use the attached document, fill it in electronically and send it by email. Applications will be accepted in order of precedence.
