European Athletics (EAA) – News – Discus world record holder Jürgen Schult now top German coach

Germany’s discus world record holder Jürgen Schult will bolster an already formidable coaching staff at the German Athletics Federation (DLV).

With effect from last weekend, Schult will take over responsibility for the throwing events within the federation.

The 50-year-old Schult threw 74.08m in Neubrandenburg in 1986, a mark which has still not been beaten to this day.

“Jürgen Schult is a specialist in his discipline with decades of experience in the coaching of elite athletes. He’s also a former world-class thrower in the discus,” said DLV sporting director Thomas Kurschilgen.

Also appointed as the German senior coach for distance running and walking is Tono Kirschbaum, the coach to the 2006 European Athletics Championships 10,000m gold medallist Jan Fitschen.

The pair will assist Cheick Idriss Gonschinska and Herbert Czingon, who are the DLV head coaches for track and field events respectively.
