By GRR 0

LOS ANGELES – Universal Sports Network, the year-round destination for Olympic and endurance sports events, will provide live television and online coverage of the 2013 Tokyo Marathon on Saturday, February 23 from 7:00 to 10:30 PM ET.

The 2013 Tokyo Marathon is the latest addition to the World Marathon Majors (WMM) series, and one of four Majors to air on Universal Sports including the Boston, London and Berlin marathons.

The network will provide in-studio coverage with elite distance runner Josh Cox and Nick Gismondi, who will also look ahead to this year's Boston Marathon. Universal Sports Network and UniversalSports.com are the exclusive national television and digital media home for the 117th run of Boston's epic event on Monday, April 15.

This year's Tokyo Marathon will see 36,000 runners make their way 26.2 miles on a route that begins at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku, then winds through the Imperial Palace, Zojoji Temple by Shiba Park, the Ginza, Nihonbashi and Asakusa to its final destination at Tokyo Big Sight.

The men's field features four runners with sub 2:05 marathons and is headlined by Dennis Kimetto of Kenya. Kimetto brings a personal best of 2:04:16 and was the runner-up in the 2012 Berlin Marathon. For the women, veteran Irina Mikitenko of Germany, a two-time WMM points champion, faces stiff competition from Ethiopians Buzunesh Bekele and 2012 Berlin Marathon champion Aberu Kebede.
