The 18. LG Dead Sea Ultra Marathon – „Run To The Lowest Point On Earth“

The Dead Sea Ultra Marathon (DSUM) has witnessed over a decade of rising national and international recognition with the joint effort of the Society for the Care of Neurological Patients (SCNP) and Amman Road Runners, under the patronage of HRH Prince Raad Bin Zeid.

The DSUM is held annually every April on the first or second Friday, from Amman to the Dead Sea. It is the main fund raising event for the SCNP, which provides neurological patients with medical aid and covers the costs of necessary surgeries for the needy.

So far, the Society has contributed to the treatment of 1250 cases . The SCNP is funded by donations from individuals, public and private companies, annual membership fees, as well as proceeds of sports events. The Society anticipates expanding its role in the treatment of neurological patients and becoming a developmental organization-creating social and technical programs in cooperation with related official and non-official sectors. 

The DSUM  had a successful  record of accomplishment since it first started. Several world record runners and champions participated, the year 2010 run broke all records, it marked a turning point in the future of the event as a national and international athletic, touristic and above all charitable event with the continuous support of Jordanian organizations with more than 5500 runners representing 52 nationalities.

The 18^th Dead Sea Ultra Marathon will take place on April 8^th 2011, more than 6000 participants are expected to participate.

Gathering Point & Check In/ 900 m above sea level:   for the runners of 42km, 21km 10km and 4.2km at King Hussein Park.

Runners of the 50Km the gathering point is the start point: First traffic light from the 8th circle to airport road.

Meeting Time:  For the 50km runners between 6:00 – 6:30am.

 – For the 42km, 21km and 10km runners between 5:30 am.- 6:00am. 

– For kids in  Junior Marathon, gathering  time between 8:00 – 8:45am .

Finish point/ 400 m below sea level:  Amman Tourist Beach/Dead Sea.

Changes and Cancellations:

• No registrations, changes or cancellations will be accepted after March 20th, 2011.
• Fees are not refundable or transferable after March 20th  2011.

Pasta Dinner / Carbo-Loading Party:

• Regency Palace Amman 
• Date / Time: Thursday, April 7^th, 2011 from 6:30  to 8:30 pm.
• Extra tickets are available for 15.00 US Dollars per person/ 10.00 JD.

Celebration Area:

• The Celebration area will be at Amman Tourist Beach, 2km after the hotel zone/Dead Sea. Full facilities in addition to the beach and shaded areas, children playgrounds, toilets, showers, changing rooms and restaurants.

·   Food and refreshments are available at reasonable prices  at the Finish Line (Amman Tourist Beach).

• Prize Giving Ceremony at 2:30pm.

Useful Information: 

• The route will be marked every 1km.
• Water  will be distributed free of charge for all runners at start lines, finish line and on the route of the run.
• The first 12km of our run are slightly up and down hill, the next 32km are completely down hill and the last few kilometers are completely flat.
• Average expected temperature: Start around 15 Celsius, Finish around 25 Celsius
   
• The course opens at 7:00 am and closes at 2:00 p.m.
• Water stations will be at the start and finish lines. There will also be water stations every 3km.
• First aid and ambulances are available along the route and at the celebration area in case of emergencies.
• Showers and changing rooms are available at the ceremony area (Amman Tourist Beach) for free. Runners are required to bring their own towels.
• Toilets are available at the start points of the Ultra Marathon, Marathon, Half-Marathon, Fun Run, at kilometer 44 and at the end point.
• All runners can leave their bags and personal belongings in the luggage buses. These should be labeled with the running number ; which can be picked up from the luggage booth  located at the finish point at Amman Tourist Beach.
• Runners who are unable to complete the race and need to be transported to the finish line are kindly asked to wait for the official bus to pick-them-up.
• A scheduled bus service will be provided to runners to go back to Amman, which will starts at 11am and every one hour, noting that the  last bus will leave at 4pm.
• The organizing committee, police and volunteers are there to help you. Please do not hesitate to ask for help.
• Collecting runners' numbers and the goodie bags will be from the society location in Shmeisani Cultural Street, the second turn on the right after Burger King, Hussein El Jiser Street, third building on the left No. 5, second floor, starting 2nd of April till 5pm on the 7th April.
• Souvenir photos will be taken along the course and at the finish line which will be sold after that at the society.

Race Numbers and the timming chip:

• Numbers will be delivered to registered runners only. All runners must present personal identification before collecting their numbers. Exceptions will be made only if the original payment voucher is presented in order to collect a number on behalf of a runner.
• All Runners must wear their numbers for check in, positioned front, top and center and should be worn throughout the entire race. NO EXCEPTIONS will be allowed, also the timing chip must be wear on the shoe as the instruction with it. 
• The number must be visible at all times, and especially as the runner approaches time keeping stations & the finish line.
• DO NOT trade or give away your number. Use of a number assigned to someone else is a serious violation of race ethics. Trading numbers or false use of assigned numbers will result in disqualification.
• Do not cut or fold the runner number and make sure the chip is on the shoe. Do not deface numbers with stickers, markers or writing.

Results: the result will be taken by the timing system, so please make sure that you put the chip on your shoe before the race, (no result will be accepted for any runner without his chip)
