A number of gold medal winners from the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona will line up for Team Europe at the IAAF Continental Cup to be held in Split, Croatia from 4-5 September.

In total 92 athletes from 23 Member Federation countries will represent Europe at the Continental Cup, a reformatted version of the World Cup in Athletics.

Besides Europe, three other continental teams: Americas (NACAC and CONSUDATLE), Africa and Asia/Pacific (Asia and Oceania), will also be in contention for global supremacy.

Performance at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona was used as the primary criterion for selection of the European team.

Two athletes per team will compete in each individual event, while in the 1500m, 3000m, 3000mSC and 5000m each team will be able to field three athletes with the scores of only two athletes taken in account for the overall team tally.

Team standings will be determined by the overall total of men's and women's points combined.

As far as scoring is concerned, in individual events the 1st athlete will receive 8pts; 2nd: 7pts; 3rd: 6pts; and so on. The athlete in the 8th position will just get 1pt.

In the relays, the winner will pocket 15pts; 2nd: 11pts; 3rd: 7pts; 4th: 3pts.
