NYRR Group Training 2019 – New York Road Runners
Welcome to NYRR Group Training, with sessions for runners in all five boroughs of New York City.
Geared toward runners of all levels, from newcomers to experienced competitive racers, these workouts offer coaching, camaraderie, and the inspiration that comes from running with others. Whether your goal is to become a runner, to run your first race, or to set a personal best, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere and coaches who encourage you to pursue your goals and have fun.
NYRR Group Training will help you get stronger and faster with your choice of six different types of weekly sessions:
- Turnover Tuesdays, which focus on interval training (faster short runs with rest intervals between them)
- Mashup Wednesdays, which offer a variety of interval and tempo workouts
- Winged-Foot Wednesdays (seasonal), which concentrate on speed intervals
- Tempo Thursdays, which primarily feature tempo runs (steady runs at a challenging effort)
- Flex Day Fridays, which feature recovery-style runs, mental preparation for upcoming races, and different aspects of training such as flexibility, meditation, mobility, strength, and nutrition to supplement hard workouts on other days.
- Weekend Long Runs, coach-led runs on the streets of NYC in the weeks leading up to key NYRR races throughout the year Runners are divided into compatible groups based on their experience, including results in recent New York Road Runners races when applicable. In a mutually supportive and inspiring environment, you’ll meet like-minded runners and new training partners. (No more loneliness of the long-distance runner!)

Special Groups
Fundamentals/Run-Walk Group
In a fun and supportive environment, this separate section of Group Training welcomes new runners, those returning to the sport, and those who have yet to run a mile in less than 13 minutes. Over the course of the eight-week session, runners will be given all the tools they need to progress to a 30-minute nonstop run. No experience is required, and lots of encouragement will be offered.
Two New Offerings This Spring
This spring NYRR is bringing you two new workouts, Flex Day Fridays at the NYRR RUNCENTER and Turnover Tuesdays at Engineers’ Gate.On Flex Day Friday, the coaches will lead you on an easy run through the park, followed by a holistic training program that will include upcoming-race strategy sessions, deep conversations on proper running form, and special talks with some of the best specialists out there.
NYRR Group Training is going back to its roots for Turnover Tuesdays at Engineers’ Gate. Every Tuesday evening, join our coaches at Engineers’ Gate as we will explore upper Central Park with intervals and hill repeats.
Weekend Long Runs
Are you training for the Popular® Brooklyn Half, or are you looking to maintain your base mileage through the spring? Join our weekend long run program, where we meet at various locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn to run 6-11 miles. Geared specifically toward the Popular® Brooklyn Half, workouts are coached to accommodate those who run 11 minutes per mile or faster for a long training run.
