Lace up and experience the first ever Connswater 10k and 5k, a fast flat run through Belfast City’s newest landmarks. Take in the beauty of East Belfast's CS Lewis Square, Victoria Park, Connswater Greenway, Sam Thompson Bridge and the Harbour Estate.

Connswater 10K and 5K is the newest community running event in the Belfast running calendar. This exciting new event has been organised by Move a Muscle, a Social Enterprise organisation, established with the objective of helping people improve their physical and mental health through exercise.  This first festival will be held in Belfast, at the CS Lewis Square on 20th August 2017 at 10am. This running gala will consist of a 10K, 5K and children's fun run.

The chosen Charity for 2017 is AWARE, the national depression Charity for Northern Ireland, who operate services across East Belfast including their weekly depression support group in Holywood Arches Health Centre every Tuesday evening at 7pm.

Speaking about the link between exercise and good mental health, Joanne Busch said, “In a world where stress and depression are so common, I have been using exercise as a way to look after my mental health for a number of years. The most recent evidence demonstrates the being active is part of a range of things you can do to look after your mental healthand I know it makes a big difference to me.”

AWARE Chief Executive Siobhan Doherty said; “We are delighted to have been chosen as the Charity Partner by Move a Muscle.  As a Charity that reaches out into communities across Northern Ireland, it is so important for us to be involved in events like this.  Not only does it help us raise much needed funds, but also lets people know we are here when they need us.  AWARE support thousands of people every step of the way in their journey towards recovery from depression.”

Event organizer, Mel Boyle, said “I would encourage people of all ages and abilities to participate in this event – the first of its kind in East Belfast.  Running helps me cope with the challenges life can present – and I know it is so good for my mental health, as well as my physical health.  I’m delighted to be supporting AWARE in this event and I know many people are suffering in silence – we want to ensure that depression is no longer a hidden illness that people are afraid to talk about and the AWARE Car will be there on the day to provide information about the services of this amazing organisation.”
