Henryk Paskal, runner, organizer, manager and collector – The „Henryk Paskal Collection“ and the AIMS Marathoneum
On Sunday, September 3, 2017, the 27th Philipps PILA half marathon took place in Pila / POL (formerly Schneidemühl) (GRR reported).
In the beginning/middle of the 80s, Henryk Paskal, the organizer and race director of the Philipps PILA halfmarathon and a former 2.17 marathon runner, still successfully took part in the Berlin-Marathon. He is an "all-rounder" when it comes to organizing.
He has also bee manager of the Polish winners of the Berlin-Marathon Boguslaw Psujek (1986) and Renata Kokowska (1988/1991/1993). For years, he has been organizing worldwide trips with Polish runners, and annually comes to Berlin with groups of 70 to 100 runners.
Henryk is also the chairman of the Polish running organization "Polskie Stowarzyszenie Biegów (PSB)" – the counterpart of German Road Races (GRR) e.V.
Very special and important to him as a manager are trips to races in Japan with his athletes and to other well-known runs abroad. Over the years, he has developed into a true "collector", especially of running and track & field souvenirs. The Sportmuseum Berlin – AIMS Marathoneum – is already indebted to him and has now put together the "Henryk Paskal Collection" in his honor.
I have transported large quantities of Henryk's collected documents and exhibits to the Sportmuseum Berlin on several occasions. Also this year, when I and John Kunkeler finally emptied the office and other rooms of Henryk.
The car was filled by exhibits in form of running sports magazines of all languages, t-shirts, medals, pins, posters, accreditations and other rarities to be collected.
This also includes the original correspondence with athletes, among others with Bill Rodgers, the multiple Boston Marathon winner. These are true rarities for a museum, being able to preserve originals of athletes, other organizers and international institutions which are now historical.
Gerd Steins, President of the Forum for Sports History and in the Marathoneum responsible for the AIMS collection, has recently taken over the "delivery" from Pila with great gratitude and recognition.
In addition to the extensive and legendary "Dr. David Martin Collection" / USA and the "Wim Verhoorn Collection" / Netherlands, the AIMS collection of running and athletics in the Marathonneum is very happy and proud to now also be able to present the international "Henryk Paskal Collection".
Thank you, Henryk, for the transfer of your huge donation to the AIMS Marathoneum. Please do not give up collecting!
