ST. LOUIS – GO! St. Louis, a local non-profit organization that specializes in presenting fitness events and programs, announced that entries for the 2011 GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend, set for Saturday and Sunday, April 9 & 10, 2011 are trending more than 50% ahead of last year’s record-breaking pace.

In 2010, more than 23,000 participants competed in one of 10 different races. The Marathon Weekend features one of the Midwest’s largest half marathon fields, with the race traditionally reaching its 12,500 capacity months in-advance, thus the 2011 half marathon race cap has been increased to 15,000 entrants to accommodate more runners. In all, more than 25,000 participants are expected to compete in the April event.

The event is unique for its long-standing model of offering races for all ages and fitness levels. It includes a marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K, GO! St. Louis Read, Right & Run Marathon, children’s fun runs and a mature mile, which take place over a two-day period.

“I firmly believe that when we expanded our mission in 2007 to become more of a year-round organization, it helped increase our outreach to new participants,” said Nancy Lieberman, president, GO! St. Louis. “We take great pride in offering events and programs with the overall participant experience in mind, which is evident in 95% of last year’s finishers indicating that they would recommend a GO! St. Louis event to others,” she continued.

GO! St. Louis presents a variety of year-round fitness-related events and programs, which include a Halloween 10K (The largest 10K in Missouri), Read, Right & Run Marathon for students in K-8, Students on the GO! for high school students, Mile-by-Mile Marathon, which is a local corporate wellness initiative. In addition to GO! St. Louis events, the organization recently managed successful running events for Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game and St. Louis Cardinals.
