AIMS races – Coming up . . . this weekend – the Penang Bridge International Marathon – the Standard Chartered Bangkok Marathon – the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon – the Great Ethiopian Run
21 November starts with two marathons in Southeast Asia: the Penang Bridge International Marathon in Malaysia and the Standard Chartered Bangkok Marathon in Thailand.
It is mostly shorter distances that are run elsewhere, with the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon drawing a world-beating field at a time when climatic conditions in the Indian capital are favourable for fast times. The Great Ethiopian Run is held in Addis Ababa over 10km with some of the country's best runners spearheading a mass field of 30,000 runners. In Europe the Medio Maraton de Valencia is also seeking fast times, with a possible challenge to the 59:30 course record.
Half of the day's events are held in the Americas, with the Philadelphia Marathon in USA and the Marabana Marathon and Half Marathon in Cuba. Elsewhere it is back to shorter distances with the 21km Nuevo Leon in Mexico, the Quito 21km Mitad del Mundo race in Ecuador and the 10km Corpore Sao Paulo Classic in Brazil.
