A legend celebrates its anniversary, and about 200 guests attended the exciting celebratory event “2,500 Years of the Marathon “ on May 7, 2010 in Mainz. The state sports federation for Rhineland-Pfalz put on the event in the former lamp factory in Mainz as part of its own 60-year anniversary,

A legend celebrates its anniversary, and about 200 guests attended the exciting celebratory event “2,500 Years of the Marathon “ on May 7, 2010 in Mainz.

The state sports federation for Rhineland-Pfalz put on the event in the former lamp factory in Mainz as part of its own 60-year anniversary, together with the German Athletics Association (DLV) and the city of Mainz.

On the occasion of the one-of-a-kind anniversary “2,500 Years of the Marathon”, the Berlin Sports Museum – AIMS Marathon Museum of Running created an exhibition with 32 panels, which was launched that evening.

The Rhineland-Pfalz sports federation (LSB) provided the financial support for the marathon exhibitions, which was first presented to the running public at the marathon expo for the Novo Nordisk Gutenberg Mainz Marathon.

From Mainz, the Berlin Sports Museum’s exhibition then travelled to various marathon events in Germany and Switzerland, sharing the development of the sport of running with the visitors at the marathon expos.

The Berlin Sports Museum – AIMS Marathon Museum of Running was also present at the 18th World Congress of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) from October 28-30, 2010 in Athens – with a similar exhibition at the congress, which was presented to the delegates from around the world.
