Athletics Australia – News – Surprised Reardon focused on Rio

By admin 0

Para-athlete Scott Reardon has told ABC Grandstand that he was shocked to run so fast during the Australian domestic season, as his main goal is preparing for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

"We came into the season not really expecting too much," Reardon said.

"It was just about ticking boxes, really. We have to do certain times to fulfil the criteria to get onto the Australian team (for the world championships) and that was what the season was about.

"So to come out and run a PB the first 200 race of the season and then to come out and equal the world record in Sydney was quite incredible actually. I was a little bit shocked."

Reardon says despite being a favourite to win both the 100m and 200m at the IPC World Championships in France in July, he remains focused on Rio.

"When I came back from London it was all about running fast in Rio in four years time," Reardon told Grandstand.

"So every day that I come to the track the goal is definitely running fast in Rio de Janeiro."
