Melissa Rittenhouse, PhD, RD, CSSD is a Registered Dietitian, and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics and a native of Northeast Ohio. She has competed in three Olympic Marathon Trials: 2004, 2008 and 2012, and currently is a faculty member at James Madison University in the Department of Health Sciences.
“We recognize that a training program is only part of the puzzle to having successful race day”, stated Executive Race Director Jim Chaney, “Melissa not only brings a high level of running expertise to the conversation, but clearly her common sense approach to diet, nutrition, and race day fueling will give our participants a better step towards success at our event.” Rittenhouse will be providing advice through the marathon website every two weeks between now and the event date of April 27th, 2014.
Second Sole of Ohio will be managing the Marathon and Half Marathon programs beginning in January. The training programs will include three group runs per week and are structure to help the beginning runner as well as the advanced racer.

The event will begin outside of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio and end in the adjacent Fawcett Stadium. “We have had tremendous response not only from the local running community but across the country. We currently have registered runners from 30 states and 4 countries”, said Chaney.
Registration is ahead of pace and race organizers are expecting both events to reach their caps by March of 2014.
