IAAF supports IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury & Illness in Sport
This week, Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum plays host to the second edition of the IOC World Conference on Prevention of Injury & Illness in Sport.
As a part of the continued and important development of the understanding and prevention of injuries and illness in sport, the IAAF is proud to directly support this conference, and the chair of its Medical & Anti-Doping Commission, Juan-Manuel Alonso, will be personally chairing a symposium discussion on ‘The Prevention of Hamstring Injuries in Competitive Athletes’.
He will also co-present an analysis of injury and illness risk during outdoor championships, in conjunction with colleagues from European Athletics, and will lead a thematic poster session dedicated to assessing the feasibility and interest to determine injury and illness risk factors , based on pre-participation health questionnaires at major athletics championships.
“Consideration of injuries and illness – not just in athletics, but in sport in general – is an area that must be of great focus and concern for sports medicine,” said Alonso. “Maintaining the health of the global sporting population, across all level of ability, is a central principle for the IAAF, so I am delighted to represent our federation at this important event.
“It offers all sports medicine practitioners the opportunity to come together, and share ideas and new developments in ensuring our athletes have every chance to be in the very best state of health at all times.”
IAAF Medical & Anti-Doping APMU manager Pierre-Yves Garnier will also be in attendance.
