World record holder Leonard Patrick Komon starts at the Dam to Dam Run
The world record holder on the 10 and 15 km road races Leonard Patrick Komon starts on Sunday 18 September at the 27th Dam to Dam Run (‘Dam tot Damloop’). Last year the young Kenyan established his name by running a world record twice on Dutch soil. In Utrecht he ran the 10 km in 26.44.
Two months later he finished the 15 km in Nijmegen in 41.13. Organiser Le Champion is proud to have attracted Komon for the 10 mile race, one of the best runners in the world.
Given Komon’s good performances last year, it is obvious he starts as the top favorite at the Dam to Dam Run. It will be hard to defeat him. Komon is also planning to attack the course record of 44.45 from the Kenyan Paul Koech (1997).
Komon is not only performing well in road races, but is also specialized in cross country. In 2008 he won the silver medal at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Scotland. Komon reached also good results with his fellow-countrymen at previous cross country championchips. He shared three gold medals with his team from 2008 till 2010. His most recent achievement was at the IAAF Diamond League last June where he became ninth at the 10,000 meters in an personal record of 26.55.29.
The Dam to Dam Run is with 40,000 participants one of the biggest running events in Europe.
