Welcome to the 2nd ATHENS HALF MARATHON to be held on March 31, 2013
Welcome to the ATHENS HALF MARATHON!
The Hellenic Athletics Federation, in cooperation with the Municipality of Athens, are proud to announce the 2nd ATHENS HALF MARATHON to be held on March 31, 2013; an event that is the absolute test before the next Athens Classic Marathon just in the middle of the way there, as well as a unique opportunity to run along the most historic and significant areas of the City of Athens.
Last year was just a start. This year, we are coming back stronger and with a much better structured event. For the first time in the history of the City, a running event will start just in front of Syntagma Square and the Greek Parliament and will finish in the front yard of Zappeion Megaro. The Half Marathon Race will be held in parallel with a 5km and a 3km Road Race as well as a 600m Race especially designed for people with disabilities and Special Olympics athletes.
Registrations for the Half Marathon and the 5km Road Race just opened! We invite all runners to submit their registration in time so that they secure their participation.
Specific participation limits have been set as to the number of runners; 3,000 runners will participate in the Half Marathon Race, 3,500 runners in the 5km Road Race and another 3,000 in the WIND 3km Road Race.

The way the Greek runners embraced this event last year was impressive. This year we aim at a greater number of runners and an even greater number of spectators that will cheer along the roads of the course, turning this event into the City’s running Festival.
We are looking forward to seeing you all there!
ON SUNDAY, MARCH 31st, THE SUMMER TIME (DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME) WILL BE ACTIVATED! PLEASE SET YOUR CLOCK THE NIGHT BEFORE THE RACE!
Organisers Message
In 2012, the Hellenic Athletics Federation and the Municipality of Athens decided to join forces further than ever before, by organizing for the first time the 1st International Athens Half Marathon, under the name “Acropolis Half Marathon”; a new annual event held in the outmost city centre, appealing to all citizens of Athens and beyond that, because of the various races it includes (Half Marathon, 5km Road Race, 3km Road Race)
The 1st Athens Half Marathon was held on May 20, 2012. More than 5,000 runners responded to the organizers’ invitation and participated in the event. The city of Athens was flooded by thousands of people that were given the opportunity to get on the streets, enjoy the unique beauty of the city and run around Athens on roads totally free of any kind of vehicle. The outstanding celebration mood that characterized this first event motivated the organizers in order to establish the Athens Half Marathon as a regular annual highlight in the city’s life.
On that ground, continuing the constructive cooperation of the last years, the Hellenic Athletics Federation and the Athens Municipality are announcing the 2nd Athens Half Marathon to be held on March 31, 2013. The Event Organizing Committee invites all runners around Greece to participate in this year’s races and spread their joyful attitude towards life in the streets of Athens.
