Viktor Röthlin has been a guest at the Jungfrau Marathons of the past two years. "I found the atmosphere so exciting that I decided to enter the event this year," says Röthlin, adding: "On 14 September 2013, I'll be able to run the "world's most beautiful marathon" for myself at last. I'm really looking forward to this new challenge and excited to find out what I can achieve in a mountain marathon."

The top athlete made this announcement at a media conference in Sarnen on 20 February 2013.

For the organizers, Röthlin's start represents a highlight at the 21st Jungfrau Marathon. OC President Christoph Seiler handed the celebrated marathon runner his personal start number at the media conference in Sarnen. "It's a great thrill for us to have the European Marathon Champion at the start," said a delighted Seiler.

The race director of the Jungfrau Marathon, Richard Umberg, added: "It's a dream come true for us."

On Saturday, 14 September, 4000 runners will have the opportunity of testing themselves in direct competition with Viktor Röthlin, who will run his first ever mountain marathon.

There are only a few start places left for the next Jungfrau Marathon: 3500 of 4000 have already been sold.
