Vienna-City-Marathon: We are creating “A Carpet for Europe”. Race Director Wolfgang Konrad calls on runners to donate your T-shirts

Dear Runners!
Allow me today to send you this personal request. We are putting the annual theme for the VCM 2015 of “We are Europe” into the service of a good cause. We are going to weave “A Carpet for Europe” from hundreds of running vests.

THIS CARPET WILL BE A SYMBOL OF PEACEFUL UNDERSTANDING AND HARMONY ACROSS NATIONAL BOUNDARIES AND WILL BE AUCTIONED IN SUPPORT OF THE VCM CHARITY.

The Vienna City Marathon with the claim “run vienna – enjoy classics” is not only Austria’s greatest sports event but bears a message of the indivisible link of humanity and peaceful co-existence with sport and music.

You are very likely to have T-shirts from marathons and other races in your cupboards which you don’t need any more. So why not donate them?! Your old T-shirts will receive a new life and help people who need it. In the build-up to the VCM 2015 we shall be turning every T-shirt sent into a giant, multi-coloured “Carpet for Europe.” When ready, the carpet will adorn the entrance to Vienna Sports World in April. Afterwards it will be auctioned for the VCM charity.

In conjunction with the VCM’s theme for the year of “We are Europe”, we are collecting running T-shirts from every country. We would be delighted to receive what you send, whatever they may be and wherever their origin. In this way, running as a symbol for peaceful co-existence, independent of nation, religion and skin colour will have a visible symbol. The VCM doesn’t only get you running. Donate your T-shirt – it can do a lot in itself!

THIS IS HOW YOU CAN HELP

• Choose one or more (washed!) marathon T-shirts which you would like to donate, regardless of whether they are from an event in your own country or somewhere else where you have run.

• Send the T-shirts to our office address at Akaziengasse 36, 1230 Wien, Austria.

• If you are living in Austria you may take part in our [VCM Training Runs] in Vienna and its surroundings and bring your T-shirts with you.

WIN A STARTING PLACE

Everyone who donates a T-shirt before January 13, 2015 can win a starting place for the Vienna City Marathon 2015. We raffle off three starting places, one for the marathon, half marathon and relay marathon respectively.
