QUANTICO, Va. – Maj. Jason Kut, 34, of Quantico, Va. was far ahead of the pack at the Turkey Trot 10K as Kut made the race his third win in the MCM Event Series.

Kut finished the 6.2 mile Turkey Trot in 35 minutes, 26 seconds, placing first among 751 finishers. Kut also won Run Amuck in June and the RunStock 5K on in August, part of the MCM Event Series that includes a variety of distance races organized by the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) held March through November.

"This was a tough course with some big hills at the beginning but it was very motivating with a lot of people cheering you on at the back stretch," said Kut, who finished more than three minutes ahead of the second place finisher. "I'm happy I won today because I promised my son I would."

Also ready to talk Turkey was Levi Heacock, 22, of Fredericksburg, Va. who finished in 38:57, placing second.

The women were led by Sarah Grigsby, 27, of Alexandria, Va. who completed the 10K in 39:51. Marine Corps Capt. Erin Demchko, 26, finished second among the women in 41:20, while fellow Marine Capt. Amanda Brannon, 34, completed the Turkey Trot 10K in a close 41:36, placing third. Both Demchko and Brannon are currently instructors at the Officer Candidate School.

Jack Morrison, 52, of Fredericksburg, Va. won the masters category while also placing third overall with a finish time of 39:12. Shannon Wohler, 43 of Spotsylvania, Va., won in the female masters category, finishing in 50:33.

Not to be outdone by the adults, 130 kids participated in the Turkey Trot Kids Mile held prior to the Turkey Trot 10K. The kids enjoyed a one-mile run and visited turkeys and other farm animals in a petting zoo at the finish.

The Turkey Trot 10K course included plenty of beautiful fall foliage. The Turkey Trot 10K top winners received a 24-pound turkey. Age category winners took home a 10-pound turkey. Second place finishers received festive pumpkin and apple pies from MCM partner, Bob Evans.
