Turkey Trot 10K Returns to Marine Corps Base Quantico
QUANTICO, Va. – Brilliantly-colored falling leaves and chilly autumn air signify the return of the Turkey Trot 10K and Kids Mile to Marine Corps Base Quantico. Held on Saturday, Nov. 17, the Turkey Trot 10K is the final event in the 2012 MCM Event Series organized by the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). The Turkey Trot Kids Mile will precede the 10K at 8:30 a.m.
The Turkey Trot course features a start behind Lejeune Hall with runners enjoying a rolling course along the streets of Quantico. Participants will kick off their Thanksgiving Day celebration with a preemptive strike against those extra holiday calories by traversing Russell Road with scenic glimpses of Chopawamsic Creek, heading back east to pass by Butler Stadium and completing their 6.2 miles at Lejeune Hall.
Limited space is still available in the Turkey Trot 10K. Runners should register online at www.marinemarathon.com. Registration is open to ages eight and older and costs $32. Registered runners receive a bib with timing tag, a long sleeve technical T-shirt and finish line hospitality items. Award winners will be presented with frozen turkeys and holiday pies.
Children can join in on the pre-Thanksgiving fun by registering for the Turkey Trot Kids Mile, open to ages nine and under with a registration fee of $6. Kids Mile runners will gobble up a course with a loop out and back from the starting area in the vicinity of Lejeune Hall beginning just prior to the 10K start. Participants receive a bib and technical T-shirt.
"Quantico's famed Turkey Trot 10K has become a pre-holiday tradition for many runners," says Rick Nealis, MCM Director. "The fun, family-oriented atmosphere makes this event an appropriate close to a very successful year of running events with the Marines."
Packet pick up for the Turkey Trot 10K and Kids Mile will be held on Friday, Nov. 16 from 7:30 a.m. to
7:00 p.m. at MCM world headquarters, 3399 Russell Road, Quantico, VA 22134, located just inside the rear gate of Marine Corps Base Quantico. Race day packet pick up will be available near the Turkey Trot start line.
