An exciting weekend of athletic action is promised in Germany, as many top throwers meet in Halle today to compete at the Hallesche Werfertage throws meeting.

The event is packed with home-grown headliners like World Discus Champion Franka Dietzsch, who will go head-to-head with Russia's European Champion  Darya Pishchalnikova, and European Javelin record holder Christina Obergfall who will make her season debut on home soil.

Men's World Discus medallist Robert Harting will compete, along with World Hammer Champion Betty Heidler, who will contest an eagerly anticipated battle against Polish record holder Kamila Skolimowska and former World record holder Gulfiya Khanafeyeva of Russia.

It is not just the German stars who will be in attendance, Danish Olympic medallist Joachim Olsen will be testing his Shot Put arm, while new Australian Javelin threat Jarrod Bannister will be preparing for his Golden League show down with the two giants of Scandinavian throwing. Following his new World Youth best 77.50m 1.5kg Discus throw earlier this week, Ukrainian super-talent, 17-year-old Mykyta Nesterenko, will make an appearance in the senior Discus competition.

Elsewhere in Germany, there will be season debuts for top High Jumpers Ariane Friedrich (Zweibrucken on Saturday) and Eike Onnen (Garbsen on Sunday), and the 44th edition of the traditional Rehlingen meeting will see Germany's top 400m runner, Bastian Swillims open his season along with former European Champion Ingo Schultz, and European 800m silver medallist from David Fiegen of Luxemburg.
