“The artifact of the month” XVIII – The AIMS MARATHON SYMPOSIUM and the DONATIONS TO THE AIMS MARATHON MUSEUM OF RUNNING – By Horst Milde

The 7th AIMS MARATHON SYMPOSIUM took place from November 7 – 10, 2013 in Athens – this year together with the AIMS Gala.

There is already a long tradition for the AIMS Symposium, which was originally carried out in Marathon, Greece, but has now relocated to Athens; this year, however, was the start of a new tradition, the AIMS Gala, where the best male and female marathon runners in 2013 were honored.

Other prizes were awarded as well, such as an award for Ingrid Kristiansen for her lifetime achievements in sports, the AIMS Green Award for event organisers, and the AIMS Social Award. German Road Races (GRR) reported extensively about this event.

The AIMS Symposium is always a good opportunity to exchange ideas, communicate and learn together with the participating event organisers from all corners of the world – as well as to receive contributions from the events for the Berlin Sports Museum – AIMS Marathon Museum.  Of course everyone expects by now to be approached by me as I seek out materials for the museum.

The organisers of the concurrent 31st Athens Classic Marathon were also "tapped" for souvenirs for the museum; Theodosis Livitsanos from the AIMS Office in Athens has been a great help in sending everything to Berlin, as extra baggage is extremely costly when flying with Easyjet.

Easyjet itself made a contribution to the museum, as there was a long article about Usain Bolt in the airline magazine, with his face donning the front cover.

The objects depicted here are already archived in the museum, while  other event organisers are sending their artefacts directly to the Sports Museum in Berlin, for which we are very thankful.
