Air France/KLM partners with Amsterdam Marathon
\"\" The Amsterdam Marathon is a step closer to the ambitions and objectives expressed in 2010: continued growth to be one of Europe's biggest marathons.

An important factor is the exceptionally large international interest in the Amsterdam Marathon. Last year a record number of foreign participants came to Amsterdam: 73 nationalities and more than 10,000 participants. The foreigners came mainly for the marathon.

The current expectation is that on October 16, 2011 a record number of foreign participants will be at the start in Amsterdam. At this moment 44 nationalities have entered with a total of 2,500 participants from abroad. A 50 percent increase in comparison to 2010. The partnership between Air France / KLM and Le Champion is particularly aimed at expanding the international character even further.

Air France / KLM see the Amsterdam Marathon as a particularly important communication vehicle for their organisation. Several major European marathons have now signed up to a partnership with Air France, among them the Paris marathon.

Rijksmuseum free of scaffolding
\"\" One of the finest monuments along the route of the Amsterdam Marathon is the Rijks Museum. The course of the 8 km, Mizuno Half Marathon and the marathon run in front of the Rijks Museum. The marathon runners pass the museum from different sides twice. Due to building and restoration works the Rijks Museum has had scaffolding around it for the last few years. The scaffolding has now been removed and the result is a wonderful sight for the participants of the Amsterdam Marathon.

The Museum includes a unique selection of highly valued Dutch paintings from the Golden Age of Rembrandt (including the Night Watch), Vermeer, Steen, Frans Hals and many others. Every year, the Rijksmuseum, currently under further restoration, receives about one million visitors.

Increasing interest for the 36th Amsterdam Marathon
\"\" Last year the Amsterdam Marathon saw a strong growth in participants. A growth that manifested itself in all the distances. The growth meant that the participants limit came within sight especially for the 8 km and the Mizuno Half Marathon distances. We therefore advise participants, especially for the 8 km and Mizuno Half Marathon, to enter as soon as possible.

At the time of writing this news brief, the number of entries for the Amsterdam Marathon 2011 edition is 50% higher than it was at the same time (beginning of March) last year. Interest in this event continues to grow.

Remarkably, especially the entries from abroad are flowing in. More than 64% of all entries at this moment are from abroad. Many Brits (already approximately 800), but also many French. There is also comparatively incredibly high interest from Brazil and Italy. At this moment participants from 44 countries have already entered. Especially the (whole) marathon is very popular.

Some reactions from 2010

Ganz ganz toll!!! Viele Grüße, Steffi aus Deutschland

Bellissima la città, bellissima la maratona. Una indimenticabile settimana passata ad Amsterdam!

I participated to Mizuno Half Marathon on past sunday and i really want to congratulate with you for the overall organization. It was a pleasure to run in Amsterdam. Ciao a tutti, Riccardo from Verona Italy

Sunny day, nice people, great city: everything I need to have fun when I run! I was largely satisfied by the spectacular arrival in the Olympic Stadium: great!

By all means it was a great event! I finished the 42k and enjoyed it. The organisation was good, and A'dam is a city worth coming again. The coverage afterwards with movies and fotos is fantastic.

Magnifique organisation, temps parfait et ambiance trés chaleureuse. J'ai adoré ce parcours. Bravo et merci.
