TCS Amsterdam Marathon awarded IAAF Gold Label

  The TCS Amsterdam Marathon has received the Gold Label for Road Races from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). "It is a great honour that we have received the highest rating from the IAAF," said director of Le Champion, Simone Richardson.

"We now officially belong to the list that includes New York, Paris, London, Boston and Berlin."

The TCS Amsterdam Marathon, which is famous for its fast course, has been in possession of the Silver Label for many years. In recent years, the biggest marathon in the Netherlands has grown spectacularly in various areas and has thus proved that the international marathon belongs to the group of the largest marathons in the world. The organiser Le Champion has met the stringent requirements for the Gold Label after introducing a number of innovative developments. A proud Richardson explains: "The number of participants rose hugely again and became more international, the race was broadcast live around the world and it was again faster."

A number of facts (up to date on 11 February)
– Explosive growth in the marathon: already 1,000 more entries than at this time last year
– There are almost as many British participants as there are Dutch
– Brazil present in large numbers. Stand today: 246 entries
– Noticeable number of "Amsterdammers" have decided to join in already
– Currently 51 different nationalities have entered

Or would you prefer to get in the mood for sports before the TCS Amsterdam Marathon? In that case you can go to the Ben Bril Memorial: a unique boxing gala in the Royal Theatre Carré or the Six Day Cycling Race (Wieler Zesdaagse Amsterdam) in Velodrome Amsterdam. The Ben Bril Memorial will take place on 15 October and the Six Day Cycling Race (Wieler Zesdaagse Amsterdam) runs from 14 October to 19 October.

Thanks to the support of the participants, sponsors and the team of VU MC, more research can be carried out into cancer, a disease that everyone in our society comes across. The amount will be spent on early detection of cancer, customised therapy and improvement in the quality of life of patients.
