Tallinn Marathon – THE MOST HIGH-LEVEL MARATHON RACE IN THE ESTONIAN RUNNING HISTORY WITH THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS WILL TAKE PLACE IN TALLINN THIS SUNDAY.
On Sunday, 12th September 2010, the biggest national sporting event in Estonia and the Baltic States – the SEB Tallinn City Run and international SEB Tallinn Marathon – will take place. For the first time in Estonia, more than 1000 runners will run the marathon.
Strong runners from Africa will compete for the SEB Tallinn Marathon victory. The most experienced runner is the winner of the Venice Marathon, Kenyan David Makori Omiti (personal record 2:08:49) who has run as many as 11 marathons below 2:11. His fellow-countryman Felix Kipkorir Kangogo will run his first marathon in Tallinn. His personal record in half marathon (1:00:54) promises a very good marathon time in case of favourable conditions.
No doubt, Korir Paul Kiprotich from Kenya (personal record 2:15) will also take part in the fight for the first place. Strong runners from Russia will also try to shuffle the cards. Both Juri Vinogradov and Vladimir Sozonov will go after the place among the first six runners. Estonian Championship will also be held during the SEB Tallinn Marathon where the Estonian record holder Pavel Loskutov will be the main favourite who, in spite of his long career, will compete for the first time in a marathon on the territory of his homeland.
In women’s marathon the main favourite in Tallinn is Ruth Kutol from Kenia (personal record 2:27.22), student of a well-known athletics coach Renato Canova.
One of the favourites of the SEB Tallinn 10 km City Run is Estonian Tiidrek Numre who has to compete with the 2002 European marathon champion Janne Holmén from Finland, Latvian Mareks Floroseks and other strong runners from Lithuania, and Russia. Among women the favourites are strong Lithuanians Remalda Kergyte and Egle Skruzdytre. Jekaterina Patjuk and Laura Suur are also waiting for their chance. As of today, we expect over 11 000 people from 23 countries to attend the biggest Estonian national sporting event that will take place on Sunday.
