Swissalpine organization/Suisse on July 26, 2014 seeks for further attractiveness

By GRR 0

Attempt to increase attractiveness  – as much for runners as for spectators – results in course adjustments on both Swissalpine Marathon Davos's main course and half marathon. An additional category aims to attract fun sportsmen.

We felt a strong need for optimization after this year's 28th race edition, announces Andrea Tuffli, organization president since the Swissalpine Marathon's premiere in 1986. In first place, it concerns the first half of the K78 category which is considered the supreme discipline of the mountain race classic. The section from Davos via Filisur (Finish K30) to Bergün (Finish C42) is accomplished by approximately 2000 endurance athletes. Nearly two thirds of which are facing the ultimate challenge by completing the course over Keschhütte and Sertig Pass back to Davos.

From the bridge to the center

On July 26, 2014 the section between Davos and Glaris is being reinstated via Islen, Junkerboden, Hof to Spina. According to Andrea „separation of the running course and simultaneous traffic on the main road between Davos Platz and Glaris has always been a difficult target and an elevated security risk“.

In addition, the new course design is scenic and features considerably less asphalt roads. The main reason for a reduction of the asphalt percentage is related to the new course design between Wiesen and Bergün where it now leads underneath the world famous Landwasserviadukt. Conclusion: „better overview on the course and the ascent to Bellavista is no longer needed.“

Likewise, the categories K21 and W21 representing the classic half marathon distance over 21.1 km have also undergone a course redesign. Altitude elevation has been reduced by150m (new 710) in exchange for 80m more descent (410) between Klosters and Davos. „Despite the singularity of the Sunniberg bridge, an appealing start ambiance with many spectators could never be achieved as the bridge had to be closed for traffic and public“, Andrea mentions.

As a result, the start has been relocated to Klosters Platz where runners complete a first loop to Monbiel and back. „Through this adjustment it is now possible to run the whole course for training purpose.“

For runners and spectators travel to the start is now much easier. And by pre-scheduling the start, the organization satisfies a frequently expressed desire. Klosters is already looking forward welcoming the runners and will do its best for leaving a permanent impression.

Fun category

Fun rather than effort is the new F10 category's slogan. Participants complete the same roughly 10 km distance from Unter Laret to Davos as K10 runners and W10 walkers do. Neither time measurement nor ranking yet a price for the most inventive costume point out the major difference towards the other categories.

Fun participants are equally entitled for a T-Shirt and to participate the Highseven side-events program  which takes place the week before the event and is mostly free of charge. Mentionable, participants of this category also benefit from an exceptionable public transportation offer.

The entry fee includes the Swiss Ticket for a 2nd class round trip from any Swiss town (including border railway stations or airports) as well as the the Regio Ticket which entitles for unlimited use of public transportation during nine days between Klosters-Davos-Filisur-Bergün-St. Moritz and the entire local bus network in Davos. F10 is the only category below the K30 distance that benefits from this offer!

The main goal for introducing this category is  the attempt to motivate people for a hike in order to contribute to the individual health awareness.

Entry fee reduction

With regards to the savings resulting from the start relocation in Klosters, race entry fees for the categories K21, W21, K10 and W10 benefit from a significant reduction up to 20%.
