Seven survivors of the 1972 attack on Israeli Olympians returned to Munich on Wednesday to take part in the official memorial service located at the Fürstenfeldbruck airfield to mark the 40th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Two of Germany’s top Jewish leaders are scheduled to speak, including the President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Dieter Graumann, and his predecessor, Charlotte Knobloch, who is currently the Vice President of the World Jewish Congress, the officials from Fürstenfeldbruck announced.

Israeli Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom, as well as Bavarian Governor Host Seehofer (CDU) are also scheduled to attend.

An attack by Palestinian terrorists of the “Black September” terrorist organization resulted in the deaths of eleven Israeli athletes and one German policeman during the 1972 Olympic Games.
