Saucony Guide 8 Makes Debut at NYC Marathon

By admin 0

LEXINGTON, Mass. – For seven generations, the multi-award-winning Saucony Guide has served as the undisputed benchmark for runners seeking light-to-moderate support in a highly flexible ride.

Making its world debut at the 2014 New York City Marathon, the eighth generation of the renowned Guide is poised to continue its success story. With several new enhancements, including a re-engineered SRC™ (Super Rebound Compound) Impact Zone for improved transition capability and reconfigured flex grooves for an even more flexible ride, the new Guide 8 represents Saucony’s relentless commitment to elevating the running experience through performance innovation.

“With every Guide, our intention is to extend its legacy by refining each and every aspect of the shoe,” said Pat O'Malley, senior vice president of global product for Saucony. “Among the lightest shoes in its class, the latest Guide once again sets new standards for its blend of engineered stability, flexibility and step-in plushness not typically found in a support trainer. The Guide’s one-of-a-kind ride is further supported by its 8mm heel-to-toe offset?our Geometry of Strong technology?positioning the foot in a way that optimizes the entire stride of the runner in motion.”

Since the original debut in 2008, the Guide’s award-winning heritage includes being twice named the Independent Running Retailers Association (IRRA) “Shoe of the Year” (2009, 2010), Runner’s World “Editor’s Choice” (2012) and Runner’s World “International Shoe of the Year” (2012).

The All-New Guide 8

The new Guide 8 offers a full ground contact experience for improved transition, thanks to the extension of the SRC impact zone from the heel area further into the midfoot. The co-molded medial sole unit improves support for runners with slight to moderate pronation needs while also adding to the shoe’s transition capability. Reconfigured flex grooves in the forefoot create a more flexible ride, ensuring that the shoe moves with the runner. PowerGrid™, the Guide 8’s heel-to-toe midsole technology, is 15% lighter and 30% more durable than traditional EVA foam.

The Guide’s 8mm heel-to-toe offset positions the foot during impact in a way that creates a greater range of motion for the Gastrocnemius-Soleus-Achilles tendon system, allowing for a more powerful running stride.

The new Guide 8 features a seamless forefoot design, offering the ultimate in comfort and a sock-like feel.

The overall weight of the shoe has been reduced from 10 ounces to 9.9 ounces, making the Guide 8 significantly lighter than any other shoe in its class.

The Guide 8 will be available November 1st at select specialty run retailers in men’s sizes 7-13, 14, 15 and 16 and women’s sizes 5-12 and will be available in widths. The suggested retail price of the Guide 8 is $120.00.
