QUANTICO, Va. – The Potomac River Running store of Reston, VA has captured the Running Store Team Competition held during the 35th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) on Sunday, October 31. The competition included runners representing 10 stores located in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia.
Running stores throughout the region registered mixed male and female teams to participate in the 26.2 mile event. Running Store results were tabulated by combining the finishing times of each team's top three runners with at least one representative of both genders. The MCM's official race results released this week reveal Potomac River Running of Reston won the competition with a combined finishing time of 8:34:43.
The team's first place runners and finishing times were Adam Condit (2:31:00) of Ashburn, VA, Aaron Schwartzbard (2:44:00) of Reston, VA and Deedee Loughran (3:19:43) of Oak Hill, VA. Condit placed eighth overall among 13,248 male participants at the 35th MCM.
"We are excited about the stellar performance of the Reston store team," said Ray Pugsley, store owner. "Potomac River Running views our racing team as an excellent way to support the running community at the grassroots level from the aspiring elites, like Adam Condit, to the seasoned Masters still turning in impressive performances as Deedee did. We are fortunate to be involved with such a talented group of athletes."
The MCM team will present the Running Store Award to Potomac River Running staff during an in-store ceremony that will be announced in the upcoming weeks. The event will be open to the public.
"The Running Store Competition is another way in which 'The People's Marathon' generates enthusiasm for the sport of running," stated Rick Nealis, MCM Director. "The competition also is an opportunity for local running store employees to get out from behind the cash register and run with their customers."
Voted the best marathon for families, the Marine Corps Marathon honors the dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. Runners from all walks of life participate in the largest marathon not to offer prize money, earning the nickname as "The People's Marathon". The MCM is the fourth largest marathon in the United States and the eighth largest in the world. The 36th Marine Corps Marathon will be held on Sunday, October 30, in Arlington, VA.
