Even after the cancellation of the two big names Haile Gebreselassie and Martin Lel Kiptoo the elite field is impressive. In addition to the Kenyans Eric Ndiema (Pers. marathon best: 2:06:07) and Laban Korir (PB: 2:06:05), which are for the first time in Hamburg, tHE Ethiopian Shumi Dechasa (PB: 02 : 07:12), who already took the course through the Hanseatic city under the running shoes in 2012 and finished fourth, counts to the inner circle of favorites.

Special attention should also provide the Yuki Kawauchi. The Japanese, who joined as a 23- year-old in the marathon distance, self-organizes his training until today and works regularly in a school. He holds several records, in particular by the high participation rate in the half marathon and marathon events and has the reputation always to run to the limit of expenditure. His personal best time marathon: 2:08:14

For women, the Kenyan Georgina Rono and the Ethiopian Dinknesh Mekash two "Europe"-experienced athletes will be at the start. Ronos best time of 2:21:39 dates from 2012, ran in Frankfurt , Mekash ran her personal best of 2:25:09 last year in Paris. Mekash also has track experience in Hamburg, as she became Fourth in 2012 after 2:29:56.

The "black-red-golden" hopes lie with the men on the shoulders of Markus Weiss-Latzko (2:18:06) and the two marathon debutants Manuel Stöckert and Julian Flügel. Stöckert recently became German master of the half-marathon distance in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1:05:04, Flügel became vice-champion at the same place after 1:05:49.

Special welcome goes to Katharina Heinig, who ran her personal marathon best of 2:34:20 last year in Hamburg and convinces also by her youngest good result as vice-champion after in 1:14:36 at German Half Marathon Championships.
