RUNNING GERMANY: BERLIN – adidas Runners City Night – Berlin’s “fastest night”

By GRR 0

Berlin’s “fastest night” has never seen such a party. There were samba and cheering zones on Ku'damm, brass bands, the Berlin Bar Choir and cheerleaders on Kantstrasse as well.

The DJ stage at Breitscheidplatz reverberated with cool vibes, and the whole City West was filled with celebrating runners, skaters and spectators. The adidas Runners City Night experienced its absolute party highlight. And there is even more good news to report: for the first time more women participated in an SCC EVENTS race than men. More good times are certain to lie ahead. Thank you for being part of it.

We are already looking forward to seeing you at the next adidas Runners City Night on July 28, 2018.

Registration is open now.

Not only is the percentage of women is growing in giant strides; the number of international participants keeps getting bigger too.

Of a total of 9,741 City Night runners from 83 countries, almost 15% came from afar. Last year it was just under 10%. Many of the runners from the Adidas runners’ community from around the world came from Cape Town, Seoul and Tel Aviv, adding to the increase in internationality.

Under perfect running and party conditions, Philipp Pflieger (LG Telis Finanz Regensburg) won the 10km race in 29:36. It appears that this “home” race means a lot to him, as this was his third victory. The women’s race went to the four-time Olympic athlete Eva Vrabcová-Nývltová (PSK Olymp Praha), who left her opponents behind in a time of 33:24.

Before the runners, 851 inline skaters set out on their high-speed loop. The most successful female Winter Olympic athlete Claudia Pechstein (SCC Skating Berlin) came in first in a time of 16:58. Alexander Bastisdas (Team Pure-Roller A3 /SCC Skating Berlin) from Venezuela won the men’s race in 15:27.

The starting shot was fired by TV moderator and dedicated adidas runner Kai Pflaume. He then joined in the race and crossed the finish in 48:35.

All of the results are available here.

A message from adidas:

It is great that you were part of the adidas Runners City Night, contributing to its great success! We hope your weekend was as fabulous as ours and you had created one more unforgettable running experience.

With the support of about 800 adidas runners from 31 cities around the world, we rocked the Ku‘damm and laid down quite a few kilometres on the asphalt. Your super vibes, motivation and community helped create the fantastic atmosphere along the entire course!

We hope you were able to help your neighbourhood earn a new #adidasplaygound through the kilometres you ran. The athletes who train near Volkspark Friedrichshain, Volkspark Wuhlheide (Treptow/Köpenick) and in Pankow (Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark) can look forward to a new training facility! We will be inviting you come train in one of the new #adidasplaygrounds soon.

Only three weeks after the night of all nights, you can continue your city run series on a late summer Sunday morning. The loop through three Berlin districts, Steglitz, Zehlendorf and Wilmersdorf, offer you a chance to run either a half marathon or a quarter marathon.

Five weeks before the BMW BERLIN MARATHON is an ideal time to test your form. Unlike the Generalprobe (Dress Rehearsal) and Tempo Check, this race is known for its very relaxed atmosphere and is a great way for friends and family to enjoy a relaxed start into a Sunday together. Join in!

There are a few spots left – so register before August 14, 2017 here.

A message from ISTAF BERLIN: You won’t even be able to see this at the World Championships in in London: Both Berlin Olympic discus gold medallists Robert and Christoph Harting (both SCC Berlin) and their greatest competitor Piotr Malachowski from Poland will be facing each other on August 27th at the 76th ISTAF in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. After Christoph Harting, Olympic champion in 2016, announced that he would be competing, his brother, Robert Harting, the Olympic champion in 2012 and 3-time World Champion also committed to participate in the oldest athletics meet in the world. “With its size and innovations,  ISTAF is of course always a highlight at the end of the season. Berlin is my city, and I always look forward to throw in front of thousands of fans in the home crowd,” says the 5-time ISTAF champion Robert Harting: “Maybe I will even take home a medal.”
