RUNNING GERMANY: BAD DÜRKHEIM – 9th Marathon Deutsche Weinstraße (German Wine Road) on Sunday, 30th March 2014

Dear sport friends and visitors the German-wine-road-marathon „Marathon Deutsche Weinstraße“, in the palatine region, is one of the most scenic road races in Germany.

The race starts at the small wine village of Bockenheim, where the „Deutsche Weinstraße“  begins. The course then runs along the vineyards of the „Leiningerland“ district, into the district of Freinsheim, through beautiful and romantic wine villages leading to the halfway- and turning-point at the giant wine barrel in the spa town of Bad Dürkheim.

Competitors and spectators alike can experience and enjoy the feeling of the Mediterranean springtime of the Palatine region.

Take the chance to combine the race with a short holiday in the region of the “German Weinstraße”.

Start documents

Starting numbers will be handed out in the festival tent (at the start and finish area) on saturday, 29th of March 2014, from 13.00 to 19:00 hrs and on sunday, 30th of March, from 07.30 hrs.

Starting list

Marathon and Half Marathon are started together. Changing from Marathon to Half Marathon during the run is possible at km 8.7 and is considered in valuation.

Starting numbers

Starting numbers – which are not transferable – must be worn apparent on the chest. Please don't bend your number because the bar code should be completely free and readable at the finish line (time keeping zone).

Event-T-Shirt

With your registration you have the possibility to order a premium sports shirt for only 18 EUR (while stocks last). Your start documents and shirt will be handed out at the event weekend.

Luggage

Luggage can be handed over on the start number collection in the festival tent. However the organizers neither will nor accept responsibility for lost or stolen valuables.

Changing rooms and showers

Showers and locker rooms are located in the area of the start and finish zone next to the festival area.

Health care

The "Deutsches Rotes Kreuz" takes care of the runners health all around the course and refreshment points.

Running course Marathon / Half-Marathon 2014

Detailed survey of the running course:

The JONES-COUNTER system as been used to measure the course, inline with the newest IAAF- regulations. The measurement protocol is available.
    
A switch from the marathon to the half marathon distance is possible during the race at km 8,7. The organizers can not reimburse any registration fees due to any changes a runner makes to his/her race registration. Interims of Half Marathon will be taken at km 10 and half distance.    

Pre course inspection

A free course inspection trip can be made by bus on 29th March 2014. Each competitor will also receive a glass of local wine. The buses will be leaving from the "Haus der Deutschen Weinstraße" in Bockenheim (race start and finish area) at 14.00, 16.00 and 18.00 o'clock.

Refreshments points

Refreshment points on the course are located every 5 km.  (Locations can change because of logistic reasons.) Additional there are three locations for water refreshment (compare Running Course).

Races can also hand over their own individual drinks / refreshments which will be then transported to the required refreshment point. All drinks / refreshments must be marked with the runners start number and handed over at the info point (in the festival tent) on race day. until 8.30 o'clock.  

“Riesling Wine Sponges“ for the Marathon runners

An extraordinary refreshment service will be provided in Dackenheim and Kleinkarlbach. The so called “Riesling Wine Sponges“ will be handed out. A very special service consisting of a sponge soaked in cool refreshing palatine Riesling wine.

  • 14.00, 16.00, 18.00 hrs  bus trips to view the course
  • 13.00 – 18.00 hrs – Games and fun for everybody
  • 14.30 hrs – Start of the "Toddlers Race", age group 2003 – 2009, 1000 m (entry fee 3 EUR) certificates and medals for all the little racers.
  • 15.00 hrs – Start of the "Student Race", age group 1999-2002, 1 mile (entry fee 3 EUR) certificates and medals for all the little racers.
  • 15.00 – 19.00 hrs Pasta Party (free of charge for all registered athletes)
