Runner\’s World has 117th Boston Marathon Covered from All Angles

By admin 0

EMMAUS, Pa. Big marathons mean big weeks around Rodale's Runner's World, and the 117th Boston Marathon could be one of the biggest. Here are the highlights:

UP TO THE MINUTE BOSTON UPDATES: As the eyes of the running world turn to Boston, so does Runner's World, keeping people updated via Runnersworld.com, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. New this year: Runners and fans who tag their Boston-related Instagram posts with #RWBoston will have their posts displayed on a giant HDTV screen in the Runner's World booth at the Boston Marathon's 2013 John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo, April 12-14.

On race day, April 15, Runnersworld.com will be right there live-blogging the race as the frontrunners head toward Boston.

FLESHMAN DEBUTS RUNNER'S WORLD COLUMN: Kicking off the week, RunnersWorld.com debuts its newest blog, "The Fast Life," from two-time US 5,000 meter champion Lauren Fleshman, the newest RW contributing editor and columnist. Read the debut column here.

Fleshman's magazine column debuts in the June issue of Runner's World. Fleshman will also be at the Runner's World booth at the Expo Saturday, April 13 (4 pm) and Sunday, April 14 (3 pm).

BURFOOT RETURNS TO RUN: Among those covering the weekend for Runnersworld.com is Editor-at-Large Amby Burfoot. On race day, Burfoot will step out of the media center and onto the start line as he runs the Boston Marathon on the 45th anniversary of his 1968 victory.

Burfoot, 66, was 21 when he won on April 19, 1968. Over the last three decades he has made a tradition of running Boston on every fifth anniversary of his triumph, with the addition of 1996, the 100th running of the great race. In 1968, Burfoot won in 2:22.17. Burfoot's has documented his training for this race here.

GOUCHER, FLANAGAN HAVE RUNNER'S WORLD COVERED, AND VICE VERSA: On Tuesday, April 9 at 3:30 pm, join Runner's World Editor-in-Chief David Willey and the Boston Globe's Shira Springer as they interview top American marathoner Shalane Flanagan in a Nissan Innovation for Endurance Google+ Hangout.

Willey and Springer also did the same with American marathoner Kara Goucher on March 26, and that can be viewed here. Goucher and Flanagan share the cover of the May issue of Runner's World, and will be signing special edition Runner's World posters during the Expo at the Nissan booth on Saturday, April 13 at 2pm.

THREE BOOKS WORTH READING: Rodale Inc., Runner's World's parent company, has launched three dynamic running books. Running on Air: The Revolutionary Way to Run Better by Breathing Smarter by four-time Olympic trials marathoner Budd Coates presents a rhythmic breathing method aimed at improving performance and reducing injury.

Runner's World's Newswire editor Scott Douglas is helping to clear up the confusion about minimalism and barefoot running in The Runner's World Complete Guide to Minimalist and Barefoot Running.

George Sheehan's indelible Running & Being makes a return to the bookshelves on its 35th anniversary of its release, including new introduction by prolific sports writer and Olympic marathoner Kenny Moore.
