Portland Marathon HALF Fills – Charity entries still available –
Once again the general public entries to our Portland Marathon HALF have sold out! Thank you!
From this point until the event is held on Oct. 6 in conjunction with the other events of the Portland Marathon, the Portland Marathon HALF becomes a charity event. Those wanting to participate still have two ways to register:

1) Get in "Free" buy running or walking FOR one of our Official Charities. Participants get in by raising a small amount of money for a worthy cause. Learn more
2) Register Now. You will be considered a charity runner or walker. Half the entry fee goes to the Portland Marathon's Charity Program. Last year over $200,000 was given to Community based nonprofits, service clubs, school activity groups and school athletic teams. And under this program the registrant need not raise any additional money.
A real "win-win." Learn more
Again, thanks to all of you who registered early and took advantage of our early entry for this event!

We think that honor of "Best Swag" includes our Portland Marathon HALF as well because our half-marathoners receive the same swag as our marathoners. Only the finishers shirt, medal, pendant, and event coin are unique to each event. And, our Portland Marathon HALF Finisher's shirt is a finalist for best area finishers shirt among the many events eligible for that honor. Also, our Portland Marathon Medal was the #1 Medallion style medal in the US last year by the Marathon & Beyond's prestigious panel of experts.
We Are the Best of Portland's Half Marathons
with Marathoners that have no more than about 1500 persons in an area that is as long as a city block, complete with their own porta potties! This has ensured an easy and faster start as well as a smooth running or walking transition along the course. After your start you move along a course that is basically flat and has only 10 turns. Our running times for the last two years reflect our course is fast!
For those finishing in a time of 3 hours or faster you will find very few participants in the finish area after you cross the finish line except for your fellow Half Marathoners. Our first Marathoner does not arrive until about 2.5 hours and then only about 50 Marathoners will cross until the 3 hour mark.
After you depart the Finisher's area you will enjoy a relatively uncrowded reunion area with more fun attractions, music and an easy way to pick up any baggage you may have checked. This area has been expanded which will make it more festive and fun for finisher's and their supporters.

The Portland Marathon Clinic provides proven, safe and supported programs. It is the sanctioned official training program for the Portland Marathon.
The Portland Galloway Training Clinic is offering a 30-week training program for the full marathon and a 17-week program for the half marathon.
The Portland Marathon HALF Walk Training is a fun 16-week program including group training runs!

Look for barrels at the start/finish and along the course to donate your gently used clothing items! We know most of our participants like to layer up and then strip items off as they go. Put these items in the barrels and the Sunshine Division will wash them and make them available to people in need. Have friends and family bring items to donate to the finish area when they come to meet you!
This picture was taken in Bad Zurzach, Switzerland, on the Rhine River. Germany is in the background. My husband and I had gone home to spend Christmas with Peter's family that lives in this village. In my opinion, the trail along the Rhine is the most beautiful training trail in the world, and both my husband and I have used it to prepare for the Portland Marathon. – Beth
A marathoner-in-training spends a lot of time each week in running gear. Eventually, the weekly long distance training run becomes quite long – a runner might be out there 3-5 hours one morning each week. People are social creatures and that’s a very long time to stay engaged, motivated and on-pace when you’re all alone.
