NORTHWEST PASSAGE MARATHON AT ARCTIC WATCH LODGE, CANADA – 3 JULY 2013:

Spring came very late and there was so much snow that the traditional route could not be used. Runners left Arctic Watch Lodge, ran 10km down the shore of Cunningham Inlet, then west along the coast of the Northwest passage for another 11-15km.

Then they returned on a route mostly on the ice, so they really ran on the Northwest Passage itself.

Runners coule see seals lying on the ice. We were lucky to have a wonderful sunny day.

Each runner has a support crew on an ATV.
