2008 Olympic Games decathlon gold medalist Bryan Clay and three-time World Outdoor 200m champion Allyson Felix will headline the 52nd Mt. San Antonio College Relays, April 15-17 at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.
Clay claimed the "world's greatest athlete" moniker with his dominating decathlon win at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The first U.S. Olympic decathlon champ since Dan O'Brien in 1996, Clay amassed 8,791 points in capturing the Olympic gold medal. Following an injury-plagued 2009 season, Clay got back on the winning track last month in capturing the heptathlon gold medal at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar.
Clay will travel to Mt. SAC after competing Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational Track and Field Meet at his alma mater, Azusa Pacific University. He's slated to compete Saturday at Mt. SAC in the open discus throw competition and the 110m hurdles invitational.
A two-time Olympic Games women's 200m silver medalist, Allyson Felix, who won her third career World Outdoor title in that event at last year's World Athletics Championships in Berlin, will compete for the Kersee All-Stars (named after world-renowned track coach Bobby Kersee) in two relay events. Felix won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in the 4x400m relay, and owns World Outdoor Championships gold medals in that event from 2007 and 2009. She also owns a World Outdoor Championships 4x100m relay gold medal from 2007.
Felix, who ran the anchor leg on Team USA's gold medal winning 4x400m squad at the 2010 World Indoor Championships, will join forces with Beijing Olympics 100m hurdles gold medalist Dawn Harper and two-time U.S. 100m hurdles champion Ginnie Powell in the invitational 4x100m relay. Felix also will compete in the 4x400m relay with Beijing Olympic 400m hurdles silver medalist Sheena Tosta and two-time NCAA 400m hurdles champion Nicole Leach. The fourth runners for Felix's teams in those events have yet to be announced.
Other elite athletes to watch include two-time world 400m hurdles champion and 2008 Olympic Games silver medalist Kerron Clement, who will team up with 2008 Olympic 400m bronze medalist and 4x400m relay gold medalist David Neville and 2007 USA Outdoor 400m hurdles fourth-place finisher Kenneth Ferguson in the men's invitational 4x400m relay . Also keep an eye on 2007 World Outdoor Championships 4x100m relay gold medalist Leroy Dixon in the men's invitational 100 meters.
