News and Notes – August 7, 2014 – USATF’s Junior phenom Kendal Williams named USOC Athlete of the Month
USATF’s Kendal Williams (Jacksonville, Florida) has been named the USOC male athlete of the month for August, the USOC announced Thursday.
Williams clinched two gold medals in the 100-meter and 4×100 at the IAAF World Junior Championships, held July 22-27 in Eugene, Oregon. Williams clocked 10.21 in the men’s 100 for his second lifetime best of the championships, and he finished with the third-fastest 4×100 time in world junior championships history.
Team USA equaled its highest medal count at a World Junior Championships, taking home 21 medals, 11 gold.
USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame Class of 2014 Announced
NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced August 6 the six coaches who will be inducted into the USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame as the Class of 2014.
Chris Daymont, Tom Donnelly, Joey Haines, Lance Harter, Ed Nuttycombe and the late Johnny Thomas will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame for their significant impacts not only on the countless student-athletes who competed under their tutelage but also on the sports of track & field and cross country as a whole.
These six will be honored at the 2014 USTFCCCA Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Monday, December 15, 2014 at the USTFCCCA Convention in Phoenix, Ariz.
Started in 1995, the USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame exists to recognize coaches who have brought great distinction to themselves, to their institutions and to the sports of cross country & track & field. Each of the honorees exemplifies the qualities of dedication to the sport, leadership and passion for their profession that serve as an inspiration to coaches everywhere in the sport.
Texas Track & Field Hall of Fame Class Announced
The 6th Annual Texas Track & Field Hall of Fame Class – Sponsored by the Texas Track & Field Coaches Association – has been announced. The 6 new members include:

Dean Smith
Bubba Thornton
Early Young
The class will be inducted January 9, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza-Addison as part of the Track & Field Coaches Clinic of Texas festivities.
