Malasadas, Sunshine, and Fast Times at the 2025 Hapalua, Hawaii’s largest half marathon event
HONOLULU — 7,857 runners started and 7,814 crossed the finish line today at the 2025 Hapalua – Hawaii’s Half Marathon, Hawaii’s largest half marathon event.
Around 3,000 visitors traveled from outside of Hawaii to experience the aloha spirit and race through the streets of Waikiki.
Under perfect sunny skies and light tradewinds, runners enjoyed spectacular race day conditions along the scenic course through Waikiki and around Diamond Head. After crossing the finish line at Kapiolani Park, participants celebrated in the lively finisher’s festival area, where live entertainment, local food, and fresh aloha vibes welcomed everyone.
A favorite tradition at both the Hapalua and the Honolulu Marathon continued this year — every finisher was treated to a freshly made malasada, Hawaii’s beloved sweet treat, served hot and fluffy right at the finish line.
Tsegay Tuemay Weldlibanos captured first place in the men’s division with a time of 1:04:26, leading Team Duke Statueto victory in the Hapalua Team Invitational Challenge. In the women’s division, Australia’s Sarah Klein took the win, finishing in 1:17:36.
Following today’s celebration, we can look ahead to 2026: early entry for the 2026 Hapalua opens tomorrow for one week only, offering special low locked-in pricing. After this one-week window, registration will close until the fall.
