KAZAN UNIVERSIADE – Cultural UniversiadeThe 5th Kremlin LIVE International Festival of Contemporary Culture was held as part of the Cultural Universiade at the Kazan Kremlin on June 28-29.
On Friday, June 28, Kazan experienced the novelty of Sunday Up Market, an extravaganza of fashion and style that where latest collections by Russia's rising and big-name designers were presented. Live music accompanied the modeling of the designs.
Sunday Up Market brought together more than 100 designers from Kazan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhniy Novgorod, Samara, Ufa and other cities.
For people who wanted to pick up some pointers regarding business communications and sales, well-known business coaches Michael Molokanov and Dmitry Semin conducted training sessions and master classes.
Not to be outdone, the Tatarstan Museum of Natural History put on a photo exhibit titled 'Pole of Cold'. The exhibit featured snapshots that Kazan journalist Anton Raikhstat took while on submarine expedition from Tatarstan to Yakutia's Lake Labynkyr. The exhibit included images taken as the subs were being immersed, underwater photos of the lake, Yakutia landscapes and scenes from the life of the inhabitants of the Pole of Cold at the harshest time of the year.
On Saturday, July 29, the Kremlin hosted a parade, which included a rogue's gallery of participants: rough-edged bikers on their iron steeds, lithe capoeira fighters, and artistic groups and actors from Tatarstan.
The main concert area at Kremlin LIVE was the stage set up in the Cannon Court (Pushechny Dvor). First up to perform was the one-of-a-kind Russian Horn Orchestra, followed by the French group Mustang. Also taking part in the concert was finalist of The Voice musical TV show Elmira Kalimullina. The singer said she was honoured to perform at the festival and hoped it will linger in visitors' memories.
In addition, guests were treated to a musical gift by Honorary President of Kremlin LIVE, the famous Russian jazz musician Igor Butman. Along with the band Jive, the Tatarstan State Chamber Choir, DJ Art aka Jay and multi-instrumentalist Radik Salimov, the maestro played a musical composition that fused genres, styles and trends. The audience cheered the performance, and afterward the jazz quartet performed several well-known works. Then Butman passed the baton to the pop band Tesla Boy.
The Kremlin LIVE Festival has been in existence since 2009. Since then, more than 1,000 artists from around the world have appeared on stage of the Kazan Kremlin. This time around the festival drew more than 85,000 visitors.
