Pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva cleared 4.85m to beat her stadium record by 20cm as the Russian claimed victory at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on Sunday. Isinbayeva then attempted to clear her world record of 5.06m by 1cm but wasn't able to get near on any of her three attempts.

Poland's Anna Rogowska, who won World Championships gold in Berlin when Isinbayeva failed to clear a height, vaulted 4.60m for second position and compatriot Monika Pyrek, silver medallist in Berlin, finished third with 4.50m.

On an evening when Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang made his comeback in the 110m hurdles (finishing second in 13.15sec behind Terrence Trammell) and USA's Tyson Gay ran the joint second-fastest 100m of all time in 10.69sec, notable Europeans and European performances were thin on the ground.

Olympic silver medallist Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia notched a stadium record of 14.72m on her third jump to beat season world leader Nadezhda Alekhima (14.61m) and claim the women's Triple Jump event.

Briton Robert Tobin gave world and Olympic champion LaShawn Merritt a run for his money in the men's 400m, before USA's world leader prevailed 45.28sec to 45.49.

Germany's Christian Reif jumped 8.09m in the men's Long Jump for third behind USA world champion Dwight Phillips (8.36m) and South African world silver medallist Godfrey Mokoena (8.27m).

Bram Som of the Netherlands claimed third in the men's 800m in 1:45.78 behind first-placed Augustine Choge of Kenya (1:45.10) and Berlin winner Mbulaeni Mulaudzi of South Africa (1:45.68).

In the women's 400m hurdles, Romania's Angela Morosanu claimed second in 55.11sec behind world and Olympic champion Melanie Walker of Jamaica (54.68sec).

The Shanghai Golden Grand Prix becomes part of the new IAAF Diamond League from 2010.
