Indian Athletics – News – 2nd South Asian Junior Athletics Championships

New Delhi, 15 October 2013 – The 2nd South Asian Junior Athletics Championships will be held at Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand, from November 10 to 12, 2013
 
Eight countries, including India, are expecting to take part in the above championships.  Other participating nations are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
 
The first edition of the South Asian Junior Athletics Championships was held at Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2007. 
 
As much as 34 events, 17 each for men and women, will be contested in Ranchi.  They are 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, 110m hurdles (100m hurdles for women), 400m hurdles, High jump, Long jump, Triple jump, Shot put, Discus throw, Javelin throw, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay.
 
Athletes born on or after 1st January 1994 will be eligible to take part in the championships.
 
The Indian Team for the above championships will be selected based on the performances of junior athletes in the recently concluded National Inter-Zonal Athletics Championships at Kochi as well as the National Open Athletics Championships held at Ranchi in September.
