IAAF Technical Committee holds 2015 annual meeting in Monaco

The IAAF Technical Committee held its annual meeting in Monaco on Saturday and Sunday (14-15).

It was the last meeting of the current committee, elections taking place to elect a new committee for a four-year period at the IAAF Congress in Beijing this coming August.

As always, the annual meeting included a detailed review of the IAAF rules and regulations, particularly with regards to athletics equipment, stadiums and facilities.

More than 60 proposals concerning technical rule changes from 12 IAAF member federations were discussed over the two days.

It is the responsibility of the Technical Committee to review existing rules and regulations, and then make the appropriate recommendations. This practise ensures that the IAAF is in step with current trends, ensures the safety of athletes, and helps continue to move the sport forward.

Some of the proposals discussed at the weekend will be put forward to the next IAAF Council meeting, which will be held at the end of April. The IAAF Council then has the power to refer important or sensitive technical proposals for approval to the IAAF Congress this summer.
