IAAF Taskforce and Interim Coordination Committee meet in Moscow

By GRR 0

After arriving in the Russian capital on Sunday, the IAAF Taskforce began two days of meetings in Moscow with their counterparts from the Interim Coordination Committee (ICC) of the Olympic Committee of Russia on Monday (11).

The ICC is coordinating Russia’s cooperation with the IAAF Taskforce, supervising the inspection and verification process for the re-entry of Russian Athletics into the IAAF family of nations following its suspension on 26 November.

The IAAF Taskforce will only recommend reinstatement of Russian Athletics to IAAF membership if and when it is satisfied that the Reinstatement Conditions set out by the IAAF on 11 December have been met, and will continue to be met moving forward.

The five-member IAAF Taskforce is led by independent chairperson Rune Andersen and the ICC delegation is headed by its chairperson Gennady Aleshin.

The two men had held preliminary discussions in Brussels on 22 December.

Andersen’s fellow Taskforce members are four IAAF Council Members: Abby Hoffman, Anna Riccardi, Frank Fredericks and Geoff Gardner.

Independent chairperson Rune Andersen commented: “Discussions at today's meeting have been frank and open, and we look forward to continuing them with the ICC tomorrow."

Tomorrow (Tuesday 12 January), the IAAF Taskforce and the ICC will meet again for a full day of meetings, following which a further statement will be issued. The Taskforce departs from Moscow on Tuesday evening.
