Hospital Hill Run Hosts 2nd Annual Race Directors Conference

By GRR 0

KANSAS CITY – The Hospital Hill Run hosted its second annual Race Directors Conference this week in Kansas City, Missouri. Presentations focused on helping event leaders and their staffs better plan and execute endurance events throughout the country.

Drawing approximately 100 participants from California to Oklahoma and everywhere in between, the full-day conference offered insight and instruction regarding event branding, operations and logistics, state-of-the-industry updates, and more.

Dave McGillivray, race director for the Boston Marathon, delivered the keynote address and inspired the crowd to consider what is possible as they approach and plan race events across the country. A trained athlete, motivational speaker and successful businessman, McGillivray has led some of the most prestigious races, including the 2004 and 2008 US Women's Olympic Marathon Trials.

"We are thrilled to be able to give back to Kansas City and to the running, triathlon and biking communities at large with this event," said Beth Salinger, race director for the Hospital Hill Run. "Hearing from experts like Dave McGillivray and others and to have the opportunity to reinforce the importance of physical activity and fitness, to our well-being and health, is what's most important."

The Hospital Hill Run will take place June 2 – 4, 2016, and is open to runners, walkers, spectators, charities and volunteers.

About Hospital Hill Run
What began in 1974 with 99 athletes paying $1 registration fee to run a 6.8 mile course from Crown Center, has evolved into an event that regularly hosts upwards of 8,000 athletes over two days and three different course distances.
The 2016 event will be the 43rd annual race; a race Runner's World magazine has touted before as one of the top 25 road races in the United States, taking place on Friday and Saturday, June 3 – 4, 2016.

The event includes three distances, UMKC School of Medicine 5K on Friday night, 10K and half marathon on Saturday morning, those who wish to challenge themselves can compete in two events, called the Hospital Hill Run Re-RUN.

All events begin and end on Grand Boulevard right in front of Crown Center.  Also included in the weekend is a two-day health and fitness expo taking place at the Crown Center Exhibit Hall, Pasta Party at Milano and a post-race party open to all.
