Hawaii’s best to be chased by world’s best for $5000 prize – The Hapalua – Hawaii’s Half Marathon on April 10, 2016, Waikiki

The fifth annual Hapalua – Hawaii's Half Marathon is on April 10, 2016, Waikiki, Honolulu. The largest half-marathon in Hawaii continues to grow with close to 8,000 registered participants for the 2016 event.

The Chase – A unique racing format

In the elite race, four professional runners will take on the top 24 runners based in Hawaii, in a race format called The Chase. Team Hawaii get incremental head starts on the professionals based on their recent racing performance.

The first group in Team Hawaii get a full 23 minute head start on the pros. Patrick Makau, Isabella Ochichi, Erick Kibet Kogo; from Kenya, and Ryotaro Otani from Japan will chase Team Hawaii down to the wire. First across the line, man or woman, wins $5,000 from the $11,000 prize purse.

About The Hapalua

The 2016 Hapalua – Hawaii's Half Marathon starts at 6am on April 10, 2016.

The Hapalua has quickly become a favorite race in Hawaii, attracting large numbers from the mainland and internationally, as well as from the islands. 

The Waikiki start and scenic course is a big draw for visiting participants.  

"The Chase" is a handicap race format within the Hapalua, in which 24 of the best runners from Hawaii get to compete against invited professionals. The runners from Hawaii get a head start on the professionals and the first one across the line takes the prize money. 

Like its sister race, the Honolulu Marathon, it has no time limit and is walker friendly.
