After traveling and competing internationally for the past 20 years, I am very excited to finally invite the world to my homeland of Ethiopia for the very first "Haile Gebrselassie Marathon."  We have put together a great team of race organizers, from Ethiopia, America, and Europe, who are among the most experienced and professional in the business

This will be a marathon like no other: world class, but uniquely Ethiopian.   While you are here, I want you to discover Ethiopia's incredible history and culture, so we have created a series of tours designed exclusively for our runners.  There are certain competitions that will always stand out in my memory, and I want my marathon to be that way for each of you.  

I look forward to welcoming you to Hawassa, Ethiopia in 2013, when we bring the best of marathoning to the land of the long distance runner.

Registration for the 2013 Haile Gebrselassie Marathon opens November 15th, 2012. Participation is strictly limited to 1200 runners (total) in the marathon, half marathon, and 5K. Don't miss out on this great marathon adventure!

$200,000 Pledge to the Entoto Foundation

The Haile Gebrselassie Marathon has pledged a minimum of $200,000 to the Entoto Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization registered with the United States Internal Revenue Service.

The Entoto Foundation is dedicated to helping Ethiopians gain access to medical care and treatment that is not available to them.

 

By hosting a world class marathon in the heart of Ethiopia, we hope to introduce you to a country that is truly remarkable for the warmth and generosity of its people, its impressive historical sites and dramatic landscapes, and its ancient culture with roots that trace back to the time of Solomon.

Ethiopia stands alone as the only African country never colonized.

Resilient, determined, and passionate, Ethiopia embodies the spirit of the marathoner.
